La Dame
Blanche
Tour du Mont Blanc → UTMB · Chamonix, France
They call Mont Blanc La Dame Blanche. The White Lady.
In French folklore the Dames Blanches stand at the crossings, the fords and the ravines and the narrow bridges, and they ask something of you before they let you through. Fall short and you do not pass.
I set out to ride the Tour du Mont Blanc and start UTMB on the same day. The Dames Blanches asked some serious questions. The films below are how it went.

The films
Three films.
The whole story.
I filmed all of it, the night ride, the transition, the race, and everything that went wrong. All three parts are out now.

La Dame Blanche, part one · the ride
I rode through the night.
To the start of UTMB
331km, 8,301m of climbing, 13hrs 57 on the road.
La Dame Blanche, part two · the run
Another night, the head is good.
The legs are failing
I stopped at a hundred and forty-three kilometres, with twenty-eight still to run. It is here because it happened, not because it went well.

The route crosses long stretches with no mobile coverage, the Grand-St-Bernard, Val Ferret, the Grand Col Ferret, and most of the high passes. The dot will freeze in those places and jump forward when I pick up signal again. That is normal, and it does not mean anything has gone wrong.
